The importance of "Quiet"

How many times do we worry about the lack of time? We think doing things quickly saves time whereas it is, in fact, it is stopping us from enjoying the time we have. It is hard in this environment not to become one big melting pot of thoughts, fears and worries that are made up partly of personal experience, but also partly of what the modern world is projecting back at us.

Often times we feel that by immediately acting on something is going to save us, put us in a better position in the imminent future. Although in some occasions this fast-acting tool may be required, in most cases it is not. But we tend not to care as much.

Having a "quiet mind" can help us massively when it comes to things like our decision-making process, self-love, relationships, our perception of the environment we live in and you name the next. A mind that is able to slow down and takes into account the "side effects" of always acting fast is able to heal, experience contentment and growth. Do you think this is small deal? After giving a thought I decided it is not.

But how to reach that state? Is it something that can be learned? If so, where?

I realised that by asking yourself the question you're literally half way there (I believe that the mere fact that we are looking for answers is leading us towards them!).

There are a lot of tools that can help us achieving a quieter state of mind and most of them are literally only one "click" away from us if we look into the right place. One of my fav here are books, I think they are a great starting point as they shape and sharp our thinking. But.. If we combine positive reads with a bit of regular physical exercise, meditation and other mindfulness practices (that you may like) the results are Amazing!

I think there is no secret on how to reach a better and balanced life! Someone has already written/discussed/sung/painted about it. We only need to equip ourselves with the right searching tools, that’s it.

The fact that pretty much the whole human knowledge so far is kept in a written format is such a precious gift that I sometimes include this in my list of the things I am grateful for (yes, if you think this is weird, I agree with you!).

Knowing that someone has already experienced my very same life struggles, somewhere in the big timeframe of human history it's comforting in a way.

And the good thing is that despite we are all different in some aspects as people, we all share the same feelings and no matter what type of book/article/journal you'll read about calming and relaxing your mind there seem to be a good level of agreement on the basics of this important state:

  1. Slowing down is a precious thing, that can actually save us time and retain our energies. So we can focus on what really matters to us.

  2. It's all about doing what makes YOU feel right.

  3. A quite mind can help us recognising our values and what priority we should give to them.

  4. A calm mind attracts positive vibes. Follow and surround yourself with positive people, they also have a crazy-busy life but they tend not to complain as much so in the end it's not too difficult to spot them! :)

  5. A calm mind can embrace failures. The truth here is that we all screw-up, messing up with life is one of the most recurrent things that we all do, yet we don't give the right credit to it. Somehow we tend to hide the fact that from this "mess" we have risen from pain, been brilliant, careless, loving , grounded and so much more. So failure deserves a big consideration!

Let’s start a conversation about the next point to add to the list!
