Mornings are new beginnings, but we don’t often start with a blank page. The page has already got the list of tasks that we’re expecting us to complete by the end of our busy days. The need of that set of actions to get done at pretty much the same time every day contributes to what define us as humans. However, no matter how hard we try to stick to a routine it will inevitably challenge us. So why we need a routine after all? I have asked myself this question several times, but through my personal experience I’ve realised I needed it to feel better and start afresh each morning.
Setting my alarm half hour before my usual breakfast time (7am) has helped me to enjoy my mornings, during that small window of time I normally read a chapter on my current-reading book, jot down what I’d like to eat for dinner, random notes and sometimes fit a 10 mins yoga session before getting ready for work.
What I found most rewarding is having the chance to have a me-time each morning, before I start working/studying (in the office or at home). I have experienced how important it is to look after ourselves every day, not matter if we are quarantined or not, no matter whatever we may feel is unfair, exciting or frustrating in our life.
I believe it doesn’t matter what sort of routine you may be willing to stick to as long as you enjoy yourself in the process and set some time aside to appreciate just that.
